Uzbekistan wins Gold at Winter Asian Games after 26 years

Uzbekistan’s delegation has secured a gold medal at the Winter Asian Games for the first time in 26 years, according to the National Olympic Committee.

During the competition held in Harbin, China, figure skating pair Dmitriy Chigirev and Yekaterina Geynish delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 176.43 points. Their result earned them the championship title at the Winter Asian Games.

The second place was claimed by North Korean skaters Ryom Tae Ok and Han Kum Chol, while Japan’s Yuna Nagaoka and Sumitada Moriguchi secured third place.

This victory marks Uzbekistan’s first medal at this edition of the Asian Games. In the overall team ranking, China leads with 31 gold, 26 silver, and 22 bronze medals. Uzbekistan, with one gold medal (1-0-0), currently holds fifth place, following South Korea (12-13-12), Japan (7-7-13), and Kazakhstan (3-7-5).

The Harbin 2025 Games will conclude on February 14.

Previously, Uzbek athletes won their last gold medal at the Winter Asian Games in 1999, when Tatiana Malinina claimed first place in the women’s singles figure skating event in Kangwon, South Korea.
